“What the Fearless Critic books and apps have that UrbanSpoon and Yelp don’t is a complete lack of bullshit.”
“I’ve spent years driving around with Zagat...but I think I’ll replace it with this Fearless Critic guide.”

Finally: a Korean taco truck of our own

The Korean taco truck is like a viral YouTube video: by the time it gets around to your sphere, the rest of the world seems jaded about it. Yawn, says Los Angeles. But a good Korean taco truck brings happiness to whatever city it rolls into, and Austin’s famous warmth has been especially rapturous for Chi’Lantro.

As the portmanteau name suggests, kimchi takes the place of salsa as the source of spice for these otherwise totally authentic Mexican street tacos, double-wrapped in soft but durable white-corn tortillas and sprinkled with cilantro and onion. The kimchi’s funky, garlicky, vegetal heat is ideally suited to not just tacos, but fries, as well. Those fries are also covered in savory-sweet bulgogi, spicy orange sauce, two types of cheese, peppers, onions, and cilantro. (Korean-Irish nachos, perhaps?) An order of these may instantly render sobriety. As for the rest of the menu, beef bulgogi, pork, chicken, and tofu are stuffed with a variety of onions, cilantro, lettuce, and sauces into tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and hamburgers. The burrito’s basically a bulging bibimbap wrap, served with a delicious spicy-creamy sauce. The fried egg inside is righteous if not overcooked; a little dry and bland when it is.

The truck usually scoots around downtown, doing its best to clean up the bloodstreams of Sixth Street. Check its whereabouts on Facebook or Twitter.
