This Clarksville pizzeria’s got more personality than nearly any other, that’s for certain. The Vegas-inspired neon sign lends an (intentional) air of debauchery about the innocent little craftsman bungalow, whose porch has a lovely, leafy view of West Sixth. People hang out for the old-school video games or, sometimes, a screen showing movies from the ’80s, their pizzas and pitchers of beer sprawling out on large wood tables; the dark-colored walls help make it feel even more like a playful secret hideout.
While other pizzas in town faithfully follow the crusts of Naples, New York, and Connecticut, this dough is chewy and sweet, but with a crisp underside. It’s closer to Americana than it is to those other styles, but it is exemplary for that genre: the sauce is fresh and well seasoned, and the toppings are thoughtfully prepared and plentiful. White pies come with sweet ricotta, which rocks with fresh basil and Roma tomatoes. Just add the ricotta onto anything—it’s ambrosial. Other great toppings are roasted red peppers, salty Kalamata olives, and house-made, fennel-seedy sausage. Oily garlic knots are addictive, with their salty sharpness, and the draft beers include some good microbreweries. Between those and the Ms. Pac-Man that only costs a quarter to play (old school!), we’ll gladly embrace our Americana childhoods.
