One of our panelists bravely volunteered to evaluate this River Walk warhorse. Here’s the result.
“I picked my 18-year old son up and we headed over to Casa Rio. We had never been there before, even though Casa Rio has been serving up enchilada plates on the River Walk since 1946…Initially, it was a charming San Antonio evening on the river...Our waiter delivered our food to the table quickly. But as soon as it arrived, we knew…
“When naturally solid food arrives in scoop or liquid form, this should be a sign to flee. But we persevered…The flautas tasted of rancid fat. The nachos were fair, but the beef fajitas were declared by my son to be ‘just horrible’...Mind you, he is a typical 18-year old bottomless pit. He tried wrapping [his] enchilada in another corn tortilla, then wrapped that in a flour tortilla. His theory was that multiple layers of tortillas would absorb and improve the overly seasoned flavor of cumin. Alas, it did not. He abandoned his plate…and watched the ducks, pigeons, and tourists as they bustled past our table, all of them eyeing our food. One of the ducks bit a woman at the next table on the ankle. I guess it wanted more chips…” Daffy duck.
