Since winning their throw-down against the Food Network’s Bobby Flay, these lovely ladies have been completely overrun with admiring customers. The problem has gotten so bad that one frequently has to wait as much as an hour to eat. But you may find it worth your time, especially considering you can order and then walk to the corner store for a beer. The savory crêpes are all delicious, some more aggressively flavored than others. The televised winner comes with pulled pork, pickles, cheddar, and Tabasco; within the expertly delicate, crisp-edged crêpe, this is our new favorite version of the cubano. Tarragon, mushrooms, spinach, and goat cheese is intoxicating—better when ordered with a little extra tarragon.
Dessert crêpes spend less time on the heat than their savory counterparts, but are by no means gummy, like the competition’s. (Austin now has crêpe competition—who’d have thought?) Good luck resisting the Nutella with good, ripe bananas, or wonderful lemon curd with sweet blueberries.
There’s a distinctly Austin vibe at work in the great music and mix-and-match patio furniture that fill the lot around the trailer. If you have an afternoon to spend, you could do worse than wait for a delicious crêpe in the tree shade. And when there’s an evening service (check the website), the strand-lit romance couldn’t be any more French.
