“What the Fearless Critic books and apps have that UrbanSpoon and Yelp don’t is a complete lack of bullshit.”
“I’ve spent years driving around with Zagat...but I think I’ll replace it with this Fearless Critic guide.”

Julia’s Indonesian Kitchen
Indonesian curries and fried chicken for the adults, the kids, and the ravenous

Julia’s is one of the best purveyors of a cuisine that’s hard to find within the city limits. The menu includes many traditional Indonesian favorites like Javanese fried chicken (marinated in a bevy of spices), fried whole fish with balado (a chile sauce), and rendang (slow-cooked beef in a dynamic red curry). The fried chicken, though, is hands down the best dish here, and it comes with little bits of the marinade dipped in flour and fried for extra flavor.

Nasi rames, a tray of a curries with a vegetable and tofu salad and corn fritters around a cone of steamed rice, is popular with UW students looking for not only a taste of home but for a cheap and filling lunch.

The converted bungalow is very cute and funky—red and lime green accent walls and batik prints for tablecloths and curtains—and looks more like a neighborhood coffeehouse than a restaurant.
