Overview Stella Artois is the best-selling
Belgian beer in the world, but it
has struggled in recent years with
identity issues. Long marketed in
the UK under the slogan
“Reassuringly Expensive,” AB
InBev has struggled somewhat to
maintain the top-shelf premium
lager image effortlessly projected
by Heineken.
Flavors and aromas Stella is cut
from the same cloth as Heineken:
a touch of sweetness, a body
dominated by grainy malt and mild
corn flavors, and a light but
noticeable residual bitterness that
sets it apart from North American
pale lagers. Our samples were
slightly skunky. We might suggest
the slogan would be more
accurately rendered as
“Reassuringly Typical,” since that is
the real value here.
