Overview When, in the late 19th century, Anheuser-Busch named its “Budweiser” after the town of Ceské Budejovice (Budweis)—where beer had been brewed since the 13th century—it spawned a century’s worth of legal battles. In recent years, the companies have begun cooperating, and AB now distributes this age-old Czech pilsner under the Czechvar name. Still, the trademark dispute is still not resolved.
Flavors and aromas A fresh nose has pleasant, somewhat sweet malt and nice noble hop character, with a touch of cooked corn. Light bitterness, crackery malt, and good carbonation are a promising, and there is a touch of sweetness that is balanced by the crisp bitterness. The finish is more dry and bitter, with a lingering hop flavor that makes this a decent Continental lager.
