Overview Many craft beer drinkers avoid
lagers, having discovered that the
light-bodied, low-hops versions of
their youth no longer satisfy them.
Even if you’ve become one of
those anti-lager snobs, you owe it
to yourself to try a hoppy Prima
Pils before you swear off pilsners.
Flavors and aromas A dusty,
fresh hop nose is fairly intense,
well out of the normal range.
There’s not much malt in the nose,
but there is a hint of cooked corn.
The hoppy flavor dominates the
palate, even past the bright,
lingering balance; all of this is
accentuated by bright, fresh
carbonation. Bitterness dominates
the finish, but there’s enough body
to balance it out. This beer
combines traditional Bohemian
pilsner flavors with high-energy
American nonconformism, and the
result is an unusual but tasty lager.
