Overview One of the most adventurous breweries in a state full of left-of-center beer concerns is Boulder, Colorado’s Avery, which produces a dizzying array of beers. While there are many craft brewers today working in Belgian styles, and a good few producing English-inspired beers, Avery does both.
Flavors and aromas Avery’s IPA is produced with typical American hop varieties and malts, but we were struck by a pronounced estery, fruity character that—along with intense and full-bodied bitterness—made us imagine this as a Belgian-styled IPA. That seems right in accord with the brewery’s goal of “producing eccentric ales and lagers that defy styles or categories.”
