Characteristics Bitter, hoppy

Overview Harpoon is Boston’s other craft brewery; founded in 1986—not long after Boston Beer—they’ve done reasonably well by themselves, without quite matching the massive success of the Samuel Adams brand. Harpoon owns and operates two breweries: one on the Boston waterfront, and one in Windsor, Vermont.

Flavors and aromas Citrus hops and sweet malt are joined by some mild esters in the nose. In the mouth, there’s medium body, with forward, fairly strong bitterness, fruity esters, and light caramel. The moderate carbonation suits this beer well, but the dry finish has a lingering bitterness that is rather harsh, almost acrid. A cleaner yeast profile and a bit more supporting malt would put this beer into a much better spot.
