Overview Bison started brewing in 1989 in Berkeley, as an early entrant into the explosion of brewpubs across the US. In 2003, rising rent forced them out of the pub business, but they’ve continued as a contract brew (their beers are produced at Mendocino Brewing’s facilities).

Flavors and aromas A sweet coffee and dark roast nose is big, warm, and rich. Dark, complex sweetness and roast character gives this a nice full mouthfeel, creamy and palate-coating. There are mild floral undertones and pleasant coffee or chocolate bitterness, along with some fruity acidity. The use of cocoa is subtle and well-integrated. Some tasters felt that the roast character was too sharp, while others thought the malt balanced it nicely.
