Overview Portland’s Bridgeport Brewing may have been the first modern craft brewery in Oregon. Founded in 1984 by Willamette Valley wine makers, the operation has grown from a 600-barrel annual capacity to 100,000 barrels, making it the fourth largest brewery in Oregon.

Flavors and aromas Of all the IPAs we tasted, Bridgeport’s had one of the least hoppy aromas—though the earthy quality suggests that this may be due to the use of English hop varieties, which are generally less assertive than American hops—but the nose filled out with toasty, sweet malt. There’s a moderate bitterness and a somewhat clipped finish, making this a quaffable IPA that, for better or worse, does little to stand out.
