Overview Kokanee doesn’t have much presence in the eastern or southern US, but it’s a popular upmarket lager in Canada and can be found in the western US. The beer was launched in the 1950s and acquired by Labatt in 1974.
Flavors and aromas Lemony, floral hops are faint but detectable in the nose, along with some cooked corn. This American-style lager has medium body, and comes off a little bit lacking in carbonation. There’s crackery malt, and more of the floral hop character from the nose, plus bitterness that—with the hop flavors—elevates this above a randomly selected American lager. The finish is crisp enough, with some lingering malt, and in the end this strikes us as decently refreshing.
