Overview Colt 45, dubbed “malt liquor” for its strength, is generally drunk in a goal-oriented manner, sometimes brown-bagged (for different purposes than ours). Ironically, its alcohol content is actually lower than that of many craft IPAs. We tasted the 6.1% ABV version available in the US, but Canadian readers will find an 8% product.

Flavors and aromas There’s nearly no aroma to Colt 45, and the palate is flat, with strong carbonation that fails to make things lively. The finish is sweet and slightly tangy, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find any hops or bitterness. But if you’re looking to get drunk, this gets the job done. But then, so do 247 of the other 249 beers in this book (Clausthaler and O’Doul’s don’t).
