Overview Alsace occupies an interesting place in the wine world: fought over for centuries between France and Germany, its wines reflect both countries but are markedly distinct. The region is particularly respected for its Gewürztraminer, an extremely aromatic grape that’s almost as fun to drink as it is to say. Hugel et Fils is one of the largest (and best) of the Alsatian Gewürztraminer producers, and this inexpensive offering is an excellent example of what the grape is all about.

Nose Our blind tasters still managed to identify some vegetal aromas. One imaginative taster even smelled lemon Kool-Aid.

Mouth It has classic aromas of fresh citrus and stone, along with that Alsatian zingy acidity.
