Grapes Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon
Overview Like their red counterparts, the white
wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy
reflect two ends of a stylistic
spectrum. In this case the
comparison is between the rich, full
Chardonnay of Burgundy and the
leaner, tauter Sauvignon Blanc of
Bordeaux. The contrast is not quite
as sharp as it might at first seem,
though: as is typical, Château La
Gravière’s white is a blend of the
grassy, acidic Sauvignon Blanc and
the fatter, almost oily Sémillon. It’s
one of the great blends in the wine
world.
Nose The nose is so aromatic and
fruity that our blind tasters thought
this wine might hail from New
Zealand. Among the aromas are
grapefruit, passion fruit, lemon, and
lime.
Mouth There’s lots of fruit, along
with a bit of vegetality, refreshing
acidity, and a long citrus finish.
