Website www.matua.co.nzOverview New Zealand Pinot Noirs have wine
lovers very excited. So far
Marlborough Pinots seem to be well
balanced, interesting, and to have a
real sense of place—and they get
better every year. Matua’s offering
definitely fits that mold: there’s a lot
of red fruit, but also lots of acidity,
and the wine maintains a balance
that’s rare in New World Pinots in
this price range. It may not be
Burgundy (yet), but we’re excited to
see what this region can do.
Nose There are big aromas of red
berries, along with a touch of
earthiness and an aroma that one
blind taster identified as cream soda.
Mouth There are more berries here,
balanced by appealing acidity. It
should be delicious by itself or with
food.
