Overview Smithwicks (the “w” is silent) is
part of the Guinness empire these
days, but was originally the
product of a brewery established
by John Smithwick in 1710. Three
hundred years later, Smithwicks
still does not have a complete
website.
Flavors and aromas The North
American version of Smithwicks
Irish Ale is significantly stronger
than the traditional Irish version,
but retains a distinct British Isles
character of low carbonation and
pronounced maltiness. Fans of the
style will appreciate this as a
widely available example, but
those expecting American
assertiveness can do better
elsewhere.
