Family Pale Ale Style American Amber Ale
Country USA (CA) ABV 5.9%
Price $$ Packaging 12oz/355ml bottle
Characteristics Bitter, malty, hoppy

Overview The unsubstantiated story about this beer’s name that floats around is that the original name was inspired by the resinous hop aroma of the beer, which reminded the brewers of a certain smokable herb. The name didn’t fly with government regulators, and thus, “Censored.”

Flavors and aromas Despite the supposed origins of the beer’s name, we found the nose to be on the fruity side of the citrus spectrum (one taster noted pineapple) rather than the sappy side. The medium-full body of this beer has pronounced caramel character, and the bitterness is apparent but lags slightly behind the malt.
