Overview This beer is vintage dated (ours were from 2009) to reflect North Coast’s desire that they be aged—a growing trend that has both support and opposition in the beer world. In our experience, some beers really do improve with age, but as with wine, it’s not a given.

Flavors and aromas This high-complexity ale got good marks from our tasters even though some of them found flavors and aromas that they didn’t like. Spicy cola or sassafras and dark fruits lead into earthy flavors and sweet, syrupy notes in the palate balanced with subtle bitterness and alcohol. Tasters were least pleased by the aftertaste, which they found unappealing. North Coast recommends aging this beer; if the sweetness died down, this could be really special.
