Characteristics Bitter, hoppy, strong

Overview Russian River brews a triple version of this double IPA, known as Pliny the Younger, and it’s one of the cult beers of 2010, with kegs in Portland going dry in hours. Appropriate enough for a beer from the heart of California wine country.

Flavors and aromas An intense nose of resiny citrus and floral hops is attention-grabbing and impressive. The palate has a good, full body, less thick than the Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, and while bitterness outpaces malt, the flavor hops are the center of attention here—grassy, citrus, and herbal flavors are intricate and complex. The bitterness hangs into the finish, but it’s not gripping or harsh.
