Overview Erdinger is not old-school by German standards, dating only to the late 19th century, but the brewery does a brisk business today, calling itself “the world’s biggest wheat beer brewery.”

Flavors and aromas Not only did we fail to identify this Bavarian hefeweizen assuch, we didn’t even register it as a wheat beer in the blind tasting. The expected clove and banana yeast character was entirely absent, and the only nod to wheat was a full, bready malt palate. The beer is slightly sweet in the nose and the palate, and finishes short and mildly malty. It doesn’t taste bad, but it lacks any real character or charm.
