Overview Redhook was founded in 1981 in
the quirky Seattle neighborhood of
Fremont, but its first efforts—
estery, Belgian-influenced
beers—didn’t get it very far. It
wasn’t until 1987 that Redhook
ESB was introduced, and it’s now
their best-selling beer.
Flavors and aromas Mild honey
and nutty notes with ample
caramel frame the nose. In the
mouth, this beer is lively, with
good carbonation, mild yeasty
fruitiness, citrusy flavor hops, and
a mild body. Bitterness isn’t strong,
but it’s definitely there, giving this
easy-drinking beer definition. A
nice beer, but perhaps not more
than that.
