Overview Henry Weinhard’s story is a classic one: German brewer emigrates to the US in the mid-19th century, founds a brewery that finds regional success, barely survives Prohibition, and hangs on as a decent regional brand—until consolidation buys the operation and shutters the brewery.
Flavors and aromas Apparently, Henry’s boars are domesticated. Our bottles had a skunky nose with mild, woody aroma hops, and a light, tame palate with a bit of sweetness that is balanced with medium bitterness. There’s not much hop character here; in fact, there’s not much character at all. One would have no trouble selling this as a pale lager. We’d stick to Weinhard’s Private Reserve.
