Overview We have a sneaking suspicion this brand name was chosen because it consists of two of the only non-food-related words anyone who’s taken grade-school Spanish will remember. That decision seems to have worked well: Gato Negro is currently one of the larger Chilean brands. Maybe we’re being unfair, though—this wine is pleasant and approachable enough to earn market share all by itself.

Nose Our blind tasters picked up on cherry, earth, and what one described as “road gravel.”

Mouth It’s medium-bodied with lingering red fruit, pepper, and chocolate. Delicious.
