Overview We could go on for quite a while listing all the things we love about J. Lohr. The producer continues to make individual vineyard wines (rather than blending grapes from different sites) despite being a fairly large producer. The folks there are also proud sustainable growers who operate the wine world’s largest solar panel array; it’s certainly not every winery that can say it produces 75% of its own electricity. Best of all, J. Lohr produces some truly wonderful wines, with this juicy Merlot as one of the best.

Nose The blackberry here is so rich it seems cooked or jammy, but our blind tasters didn’t mind a bit.

Mouth It’s sleek and juicy in the mouth, with mild tannins and acidity. There’s also a hint of herbs in there.
