Hayman and Hill Cabernet Sauvignon
Napa Valley
Style Heavy red New World Country USA (CA)
Price $15
Vintage tasted 2007
Grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah
Overview It’s rare to find a Cabernet Sauvignon
from the Napa Valley AVA under
$15, much less one that’s as
classically delicious as this. It has all
the qualities that have earned Napa
fans across the world: tons of fruit
flavor, an expansive mouthfeel, and a
hint of black pepper. Even our blind
tasters who are skeptical of the
California style couldn’t help but love
it. It would be a great pairing with a
juicy steak, but we’d be just as happy
to drink it by itself—it’s so big it feels
like a full meal.
Nose Our blind tasters found
currant, pepper, and even what was
described as wet grass, an adjective
combination more often attributed
to white wine.
Mouth It’s big and expansive, with
massive body and plenty more fruit.
