Characteristics Sour, unusual

Overview Kriek (Flemish for cherry) is an iconic style of beer from Belgium. Sour cherries are added after initial fermentation, and the sugar in the cherries ferments out. But some producers—including Lindemans—add sugar to take the edge off of the intense, dry tartness. If you like this style, you’ll like this beer. But this is a very divisive beer that you also just might hate. For people who don't like fruity beer this could be a revelation that it doesn't have to be sweet. But some still might find the cherry cloying or synthetic.

Flavors and aromas Everyone found “cherry candy.” Big synthetic tart-candy flavors develop into cough-syrup cherry. There’s sourness here, but not nearly enough to find balance with the intense sweetness.
