Overview “Hoss”—at least as we know and love the word—is a way friends sometimes address each other in the South, originally derived from the word “horse,” and roughly translated as “dude,” as in: “What’s up, hoss?” This is Great Divide’s first lager. Introduced as a seasonal beer in August 2009, it was inducted into the year-round ranks almost immediately.
Flavors and aromas Nobody identified this as a märzen, despite a deeper color than the other beers. A somewhat perfumey nose suggests hops, honey, nuts, and caramel. The palate is sweetish, with light caramel notes, and there is some fruity character. There’s also light, clean bitterness that lingers into the sticky-but-not-sweet finish.
