Overview 19th century Spaten brewer
Gabriel Sedlmayr may be the
single most important figure in
modern brewing, having had a
role in the creation of most of the
modern Bavarian lager styles,
including the märzen/Oktoberfest
style.
Flavors and aromas A solid
example of a German amber lager,
this is intensely focused on the
malt. Typical Munich malt aromas
of nutty, lightly toasted grain, with
some of the fruitiness that is often
evident in beers with a high
Munich content, as well as some
caramel. The bitterness here is a
little bit higher than we’d expect
to find in an Oktoberfest, but it
keeps things crisp. The finish is dry,
moderately bitter, and yet still
shows off the malt.
