Overview A relatively young winery (it was founded in the early 1970’s), El Coto turns out Riojas that are positively ancient in style. Dusty and leathery, both this year’s and last year’s offerings were packed with the sour cherries and rustic aromas that are part of the classic Rioja profile. We love it, but then, we’re suckers for the Old World. If you’ve never had an old-school Spanish wine, we suggest you at least give it a try— retro’s in, after all.

Nose It’s earthy, with plenty of red fruit to round out the rough edges.

Mouth It’s silky in the mouth, with a wonderfully long, earthy finish.
