Overview Rioja has exacting legal standards
governing winemaking; whether a
wine qualifies as a crianza, reserva,
gran reserva, or merely a plain Rioja
is dictated by requirements of aging,
grape type, and production volume.
Crianza is the second rung up on
Rioja’s hierarchy, denoting a wine
that has been aged for at least two
years, with at least six months in oak
barrels. While these wines normally
have earthy aromas, this one is much
more fruit-forward in style.
Nose We hope you like cherry. Our
blind tasters identified candied
cherries, sour cherries, and
chocolate-covered cherries. There’s
also a slight, pleasing animal aroma.
Mouth Though its flavors of malted
chocolate and cherries may sound
sweet, this wine isn’t at all.
