Vintage tasted 2008 Grapes Merlot

Overview Anyone who thinks of a Merlot as a natural fruit bomb should try this wine from northern Italy: there’s not a fruit flavor in sight. Instead, the wine is earthy, vegetal, and even piney. It might take some getting used to (and we’d miss our fruit if this was all we drank), but it’s certainly an interesting change from New World Merlot.

Nose There are vegetable notes (especially green pepper), and an aroma one blind taster compared to a pine tree.

Mouth It’s distinctly rustic, with herbs, nuts, and more vegetal flavors.
