Lungarotti Fiamme
Umbria Rosso IGT

Style Light red Old World Country Italy Price $14
Vintage tasted 2008 Grapes Sangiovese, Merlot

Overview Umbria borders Tuscany, and with its greener fields and craggier mountains it’s one of the few regions of Italy that can give its neighbor competition in the charming landscapes department. Apparently Lungarotti hopes to compete in the Old-World-meets-New wine department as well: this wine is clearly modeled on the so-called Super Tuscans—powerful and usually expensive wines made by blending traditional grapes with international ones. And while this bottle may not have the punch of premium Super Tuscans, it’s a wonderfully elegant table wine.

Nose Bright and clear, it has berry and vegetal aromas.

Mouth Simple, rustic, and as one blind taster put it, a perfect example of an Italian table wine.
