Overview We will have to get in line to praise Alaskan Smoked Porter—according to the brewery, it’s the most decorated beer in Great American Beer Festival history, with 18 medals. Many beer fans might be hard put to name another smoke beer, but that doesn’t change the fact that we found it delicious.

Flavors and aromas Alaskan’s Smoked Porter has a bit of a reputation for being over the top with smoke character, but our tasters didn’t find that to be the case at all. A rich, roasty nose has smoke notes that are more subtle than overt, and the palate is roasty, slightly ashy, with full body, cola notes, and some acidity from the dark roasts. Ample malt eases the tension of the smoke and roast flavors, and the end result is delightfully complete.
