“What the Fearless Critic books and apps have that UrbanSpoon and Yelp don’t is a complete lack of bullshit.”
“I’ve spent years driving around with Zagat...but I think I’ll replace it with this Fearless Critic guide.”

Bakery Nouveau
The type of sinful pastry-crust eating that defines special occasions...or Tuesdays

Bakery Nouveau is a near-perfect replica of a typical Parisian bakery, and it provokes all sorts of poetic devotion from the panel. Croissants fragment into brittle shards when bitten, the buttery crumbs breaking all over your sweater like a stained glass window from a medieval church sacked by Vikings.

Along with the croissants, confections with designs as intricate as Victorian wallpaper, and cakes that will make you the hero of any party, Bakery Nouveau makes excellent quiches, the best being the classic quiche Lorraine (fluffy eggs dotted with chunks of crisp bacon glued together with gruyère in a flaky pastry shell).

On weekends, expect long lines of latte-sipping soccer moms. If you expect to sit down in peace and quiet, the best way to experience the bakery is midday, midweek, while skipping work and pretending you’re an unemployed Frenchman on the dole. Don’t be too hung up on finding a suitable perch here; aside from the seemingly miles-long pastry case, the place looks like a pretty standard coffeehouse.
