Overview Carlsberg established a laboratory for brewing research in 1875 which isolated lager yeast for the first time and invented the pH scale. That strikes us as a profoundly Scandinavian approach to beer. Nowadays, Tuborg battles Carlsberg for dominance in Denmark, but in the rest of the world, it’s no contest.
Flavors and aromas The noble hop-skunk combo that characterizes imported Carlsberg tipped our tasters off to the fact that this is a Continental lager from a green glass bottle. The skunk is mild, though, and the light, sweet malt supports a soft bitterness and medium mouthfeel with some nice hop character.
