This taco truck can’t sit still. It’s moved under the West Alabama Ice House sign, and we can’t promise it will still be there when you read this. You might want to check online, but of course, a place like this doesn’t have a Twitter feed or Facebook page or anything. The menu’s handwritten on the side of the truck, for crying out loud. That list is a mouthwatering array of meats available in either a taco on a corn tortilla with cilantro y cebolla, or in a torta sandwich.
Barbacoa is fatty and juicy with a touch of lime for brightness; top it off with the tangy and spicy salsa verde. Bistec is all right, but a less savory version of barbacoa. Pastor is our top choice here, hot and sweet from pineapple. Delicious lengua (tongue) is sliced thin and grilled after boiling to tender, then tossed with a subtly spicy red sauce. Add a little kicking fiery red salsa for extra heat, but be careful—it’s muy picante. Both salsas are available in a ketchup squeeze bottle on the counter, so you can apply with abandon. A refreshing toronja (grapefruit) soda will cool it down, and it goes great with the tequila in your hip flask.
