“What the Fearless Critic books and apps have that UrbanSpoon and Yelp don’t is a complete lack of bullshit.”
“I’ve spent years driving around with Zagat...but I think I’ll replace it with this Fearless Critic guide.”

Jenni’s Noodle House
Not so much authentic Asian as American health food done Asian-style

Is it just us, or does Jenni’s Noodle House seem to lately be going for an Asian Chuck E. Cheese thing? The website features a childish haiku, coloring sheets, and an adorable blog from the point of view of the proprietors’ own kiddo, Logan. It’s certainly much healthier than that creepy hallucinogenic mouse hole: you can add free vegetables to any dish on the kid’s menu. Even adults have fun here, with a spunky staff bopping their heads to the music playing, and zany menu titles like “Udon Know Me.”

With all the Nick Jr. antics, you might expect the quality to suffer, but in fact, Jenni’s noodles can be pretty good. Starters like spring rolls, egg rolls, and dumplings are just average; the better choices are seaweed salad with a mellow brininess that’s complemented by pepper vinaigrette dressing, or a crispy fried tofu with house soy sauce. Curry and vermicelli salads add to the somewhat haphazard pan-Asian attack. “Infernal Chicken Curry” is studded with potatoes and swimming about in a coconut chile shrimp broth that you can’t stop splashing into your mouth, despite the fact that it’s sizzling your tongue off. “Angry Udon” are thick noodles with tofu and mushrooms in a spicy tamarind broth. But these dishes are standouts; most come off like dressed-up Top Ramen.

And remember: you can bring drinks for only $4.
