“What the Fearless Critic books and apps have that UrbanSpoon and Yelp don’t is a complete lack of bullshit.”
“I’ve spent years driving around with Zagat...but I think I’ll replace it with this Fearless Critic guide.”

Café Istanbul
Dolmas with a side of belly dancing

Lunch is a fantastic time to sample the provocatively satisfying cuisine at Café Istanbul. The friendly, unpretentious environment invites a relaxing afternoon break—either in the patio or indoors. The food follows suit: fresh ingredients and straightforward presentation set the stage for a number of comforting and flavorful culinary experiences. Accompany warm, house-made complimentary bread (or a dramatic steam-puffed pillow of lavash) with a choice of Mediterranean dips like spicy hummus, smoky baba ghannoush (striking just the right balance of creamy and chunky texture), or a spicy Turkish salsa called acili ezme.

When tomatoes are in season enjoy the fresh Coban salad with cucumber, green chilies, and red onion in a light vinaigrette. Follow that with lahmacun, an authentic Middle Eastern version of the thin-crust lamb pizza. For a more filling main course, experience the iskender kebap—familiar beef and lamb doner (spit-roasted meat) over cubes of bread tossed in a rich tomato sauce and served with yogurt. Dinnertime is fun, too, with live belly dancing on Friday nights at the Park Cities location.
