A couple of things set the Tavern apart from the two other variations on the Neighborhood Services theme. First: the Tavern’s bar is the playground of some of the city’s best mixologists. Here, they construct cocktails ranging from proto-classics (check out the original Manhattan recipe) to re-invented classics (a lavender-infused Tom Collins), to classics in-the-making (the “Amelia” featuring blackberry purée and St. Germain elderflower liqueur). Second: the casual pub-like dining room, with its tall tables and chairs and not much room in between.
The Tavern shares some elements with its siblings—notably friendly service and a well-executed menu of comfort food dishes cultivated with creative flair. Check out steak frites with pedigreed beef (Niman Ranch, Creekstone Farms, etc.) augmented by the spicy, rich “Original Voodoo Sauce” and some of the best frites in Dallas. Or try the incredibly rich and tender pan-fried chicken confit. Also look out for three daily specials and a weekly rotation of “Nightly Plates.”
