Overview When Anheuser-Busch took a minority stake in this business and an active role in distribution a decade later, Widmer began to infiltrate pubs and supermarkets formerly the exclusive domain of large breweries.

Flavors and aromas There are beers that seem sweet, and beers that are sweet—Drop Top is in the latter category, having what Widmer describes as “a touch” of lactose (which, like many people, yeast can’t digest). We found this to be a perfectly serviceable pale ale but for the distracting and unnecessary sweetness. At typical bar serving temperatures, the sugar probably isn’t so noticeable...so why include it?
