Overview Prior to the invention of the new-fangled “nitro widget,” this was the face of take-home Guinness. It’s noticeably carbonated, unlike draught Guinness, and it’s a bit stronger. Some countries instead get Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, which can hit 8% ABV.

Flavors and aromas Our tasters found buttery notes in the nose, along with some spicy character. The palate here is dominated by a sharp roast acidity and matching roast flavors. The acidity of the grains—or perhaps a touch of yeast character—comes across in the mouth as slightly fruity, but the dominant element is roast character that is both bitter and acidic. The mouthfeel suffers more than the flavor. One of our tasters loved this beer, but it’s certainly not for everyone.
