Characteristics Bitter, hoppy

Overview The popularity of intensely hoppy IPAs on the West Coast may have been originally related to brewers’ proximity to fresh, flavorful hops— hops are notoriously ungraceful agers—but they no longer have a monopoly on the style; it seems like every craft brewer has a big IPA now.

Flavors and aromas A focused nose of resiny, green hops, with a slightly sour tang suggests an herb closely related to hops but not generally legal for brewing practices. Flavor hops and caramel malt show up early on the palate, but you can anticipate the tide of bitterness that arrives and washes it all away, leaving a long lingering bitterness that some tasters felt was overdone or medicinal.
