Overview Dry beer (i.e. fully fermented, leaving no residual sugar) is not a Japanese invention; in Germany, fully fermented lagers have been produced and marketed as safer for diabetics. But Asahi’s Super Dry puts a marketable face on the style, and it’s the brewery’s flagship brand to this day.

Flavors and aromas Asahi struck our tasters as watery and devoid of flavor. There’s little hop or malt character, leading one taster to think that this was a low-calorie light beer. While adding a lot of hops would quickly upset the balance, a little would go a long way to making this more palatable.
