Overview Prior to the Saranac line of beers introduced in 1985, F.X. Matt Brewery produced a number of American-style lagers, competing with large national breweries. Miller Lite inventor Joseph Owades was a regular consultant on the Saranac product line.

Flavors and aromas There’s a faint citrus nose (or perhaps it’s pine). The medium-full body has a light flavor profile, with minimal malt character, a bit of hop flavor, and moderate bitterness that seems almost obtrusive by comparison. The bitterness lingers into the finish, where this takes a slight turn for the worse: an oily mouthfeel that lingers. Not a terrible beer, but we imagine that there will generally be more exciting options available.
