Overview Don’t let the name confuse you—the cream ale style has much more in common with mainstream lagers than ales. Introduced in 1960, Genesee in 1964 adopted the slogan, “The Male Ale.” The brand peaked in the mid-1970s and hangs on a throwback. Based on our tasting, Genny Cream deserves better.

Flavors and aromas A faintly hoppy beer—in hop character, it’s somewhere between Budweiser and Heineken—Genny Cream offers a nice nose and a mouth of clean, bready malt. Our tasters were willing to guess that this was an all-malt brew that finishes light and clean, with just a hint of fruitiness nodding to the use of ale yeast in this lager-styled beer.
