Overview Sol Beer—introduced in 1899 as
“El Sol”—is part of a family of
beers, mostly not exported, which
includes an amber version, a light
beer, and a lime-and-salt beer. It’s
very popular in Mexico, and quite
refreshing when fresh—way better
than Corona—but the glass bottles
bring it down to Corona’s level
when it’s imported into the US. It’s
a beer that’s best drunk on
location. In a michelada.
Flavors and aromas A very thin,
empty nose gave us little preview
of what this beer had to offer...
which isn’t too much of a strike
against this beer, which doesn’t
have much more than a thick
mouthfeel and a flat palate. The
high carbonation gives this
lackluster beer a seltzer-like quality,
but we’d advise you to just drink
seltzer if it’s all the same to you.
